Louis Armstrong, often affectionately known as “Satchmo” or “Pops,” was a groundbreaking jazz trumpeter, vocalist, and bandleader whose influence reshaped the landscape of 20th-century music. Born in New Orleans in 1901, Armstrong rose from humble beginnings to become an international icon, blending virtuosic trumpet playing with his gravelly, emotive voice. His recordings with the Hot Five and Hot Seven set new standards for improvisation, while later hits like What a Wonderful World and Hello, Dolly! brought jazz into the mainstream.
