The Beatles
Biography
The Beatles, formed in Liverpool in 1960 by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, are widely regarded as one of the most influential bands in music history. Emerging from their early rock ’n’ roll and skiffle roots, they pioneered new sounds that blended pop, rock, folk, and psychedelia, redefining what popular music could be. With landmark albums such as Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Revolver, and Abbey Road, along with timeless songs like Hey Jude and Let It Be, the group achieved unprecedented global success. Their innovative songwriting, studio experimentation, and cultural impact continue to inspire musicians and listeners across generations.
Fun Trivia
During the recording of Abbey Road, the band used an actual anvil as a percussion instrument on the track Maxwell’s Silver Hammer — making them one of the few rock bands to literally bring a toolbox into the studio.
