The Animals
Biography
The Animals were an English rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in the early 1960s, best known for their raw rhythm and blues sound and Eric Burdon’s powerful, soulful vocals. Rising to international fame with their 1964 hit The House of the Rising Sun, the group brought a darker, more intense edge to the British Invasion. Their blend of blues, rock, and folk influences produced enduring tracks such as Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood and We Gotta Get Out of This Place. With their gritty style and socially aware lyrics, The Animals carved out a unique place in rock history, influencing countless musicians across generations.
Fun Trivia
When touring the U.S. in the 1960s, The Animals were such big fans of American soul food that they once delayed a gig just to make sure they got their fill of Southern fried chicken — proving their appetite for blues went well beyond the music.
